JOB TITLE: Dental Patient Services Representative

DEPARTMENT: Dental Health Services

FLSA: Full-Time; Hourly; Non-Exempt

DURATION: Open Until filled

HIRING RANGE: $15.00/hour to $18.00/hour

Position Purpose

Promotes dental health by completing dental prophylaxis; providing oral cancer screening and radiographic studies; charting conditions of decay and disease; and performing procedures in compliance with the Dental Practice Act. The position will participate in QI activities as needed.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

  1. Promote the mission, vision, and values of the organization
  2. Opening and closing the dental office according to office protocol.
  3. Greet, welcome and check in patients.
  4. Check patient back up list to try to fill in cancellation and no-show appointment times.
  5. Collect payment from patients at the time of treatment.
  6. Make follow-up appointments as needed.
  7. Prepares and submits claims to various insurance companies either electronically or by paper.
  8. Makes telephone calls to various dental insurance companies for explanation of benefits
  9. Identifies and resolves patient billing complaints.
  10. Evaluates patient’s financial status and reports status of delinquent accounts.
  11. Works with the patient to guide them through all the necessary steps that their insurance company requires for approval.
  12. Verifies insurance eligibility with Medicare, Medicaid and private insurance companies.
  13. Addresses claim denials and questions from third parties.
  14. Maintains a knowledge base of insurance trends and learn new policy changes within the dental industry.
  15. Verifies patient treatment plans with clinical staff prior to submission to the insurance company to ensure proper patient coverage.
  16. Provides excellent customer service and maintains a professional demeanor when working with insurance companies.
  17. Ensures that HIPAA Notice of Privacy Practices is on display and policies are followed.
  18. Gathers and accurately records dental, medical, and insurance information from patients.
  19. Tracks cases and referrals to and from other doctors.
  20. Updates insurance information on all patients and prepares claim form.
  21. Submits treatment plans for predetermination of benefits.
  22. Organizes supporting materials for claim forms, such as radiographs or written narratives.
  23. Mails and/or submits electronic claim forms.
  24. Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION: High School diploma or GED.  Efficient use of 10-key calculator, copier and computer.  Previous Dental Office Experience Strongly Preferred. Previous medical office/customer service experience required.

Other Skills & Abilities 

SKILLS/ABILITIES: Individual must possess the ability to input data into computer for compiling information and basic knowledge of use office equipment.
